Offshore Installation Manager is a new course organized by the Romanian Nautical College. The first series of the course will start on the 12th of December.
Personnel who have completed the requirements of Ballast Control Operator Course or Barge Supervisor Course, in order to undertake responsibility for Offshore Installation Manager. This course is recommended to Personnel on Mobile Offshore Units [MOU]. This course is also suitable for all MOU personnel involved in stability calculations, including self-elevating platforms (Jack-Ups).
Personnel with previous formal STCW training (deck or engine officer CoC holders) will cover only days 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the OIM course and benefit of 200 euro discount to the course’s price.
Personnel who have completed the Ballast Control Operator Couse will take only days 3, 4 and 5 of the OIM course and benefit of 400 euro discount to the course’s price.
Personnel who have completed the Barge Supervisor Couse will take only days 4 and 5 of the OIM course and benefit of 600 euro discount to the course’s price.
Course Length: 5 days (40 hours)
Course Aim: To provide training in the handling of Ballast Control operations in simulated, normal and emergency situations for ballast/barge supervisors.
Comprehensive stability instruction usng simulators and real stability software used on board of various types of ships. Special accent is put on extreme weather conditions and emergency situations. The practical component of the course will cover:
- Terminology associated to ships’ stability
- States of equilibrium
- Initial stability
- Longitudinal and transverse stability
- Hydrostatic parameters
- List and trim
- Damaged stability
- Loading weights and mooring system effects
- Motions in a seaway and ballast control
- Operating procedures and reports.
- Blackout situations
- Movements of onboard cargo
- Loss of watertight integrity
- Various equipment and systems’ failure
- Severe weather
- Fire Fighting
- Signalling and Standard Communication
-Classroom (fully equipped with modern furniture, smart board, video projectors, etc.).
-Full bridge simulator to create the real onboard situations, including severe weather.
-Real loading softwares for 5 types of ships and units
Minimum Instructor Qualification/Experience
Master Mariner, accredited by IADC or NI.
Min/Max Number of Delegates Required per course: 2/8.

Course support complies with the IADC/NI Guidelines and the IMO requirement A.1079(28) for the selection and training of Ballast Control Operators.
At the end of the course you must pass a written examination prior to the issue of a certificate. This certificate will comply with IMCA, IADC and NI regulations and is recognised internationally.
The OIM course’s certificate satisfies the examination requirements of 46 CFR 10.470 (b)(2)(i), 10.470 (d)(2)(i), 10.472 (a)(2)(i), or 10.474 (a)(2)(i) for any licence as Offshore Installation Manager, Barge Supervisor or Ballast Control Operator, and the requirements of IMO Resolution A.891(21).
